Mysterious Kalmykia has become the leader in the growth rate of so-called “quiet” tourism in Russia. In 2025, the number of bookings in the republic increased by 41%, according to a joint study by the Russian Ministry of Economic Development and the Association of Travel Aggregators (ATAG).

In the south of Russia, in mysterious Kalmykia, experienced employees of the Black Lands Nature Reserve have completed monitoring the nesting colonies of the pink pelican, listed in the Red Book, on the islands of Lake Manych-Gudilo.

Using a drone, it was possible to count 3,380 adult birds and 1,807 chicks, which makes this colony the largest in Russia, a state source in the government of the Republic of Kalmykia reported to KalmykiaTour. (more…)

Bogudonia – the fishing slums of Taganrog in Russia

The air here smells of salt, fish and rusty iron. Bogudonia is the fishing quarter of old Taganrog, its secret pocket on the very shore of the Azov Sea. Once very beautiful – with white houses, greenery and clean beaches – today this area looks more like an urban ghetto.

The President of the Abkhaz Union of Tourism Anna Kalyagina told NSN that the average annual increase in tourists is 6-7%, but this year the figures may improve.

Abkhazia expects the tourist flow from Russia to increase by 20% in the summer of 2025, but so far only 60% of the room stock has been booked, the President of the Abkhaz Union of Tourism Anna Kalyagina told NSN.

Direct flights to Abkhazia will appear from another region. Thus, the airline “RusLine” will open a flight program to Sukhum from Saratov from June 28. Marine Garden Sochi Hotels & SPA 5* hotel complex has opened in Khostinsky district of Sochi, the press service of ZONT Hotel Group management company reports.
