Number of birds in a colony of pink pelicans
In the south of Russia, in mysterious Kalmykia, experienced employees of the Black Lands Nature Reserve have completed monitoring the nesting colonies of the pink pelican, listed in the Red Book, on the islands of Lake Manych-Gudilo.
Using a drone, it was possible to count 3,380 adult birds and 1,807 chicks, which makes this colony the largest in Russia, a state source in the government of the Republic of Kalmykia reported to KalmykiaTour. Read the rest of this entry »

The air here smells of salt, fish and rusty iron. Bogudonia is the fishing quarter of old Taganrog, its secret pocket on the very shore of the Azov Sea. Once very beautiful – with white houses, greenery and clean beaches – today this area looks more like an urban ghetto.

Pink Lake
The visit of the Ambassador of Qatar is an opportunity to familiarize our friends with the potential of the region and make a significant contribution to strengthening our relations,” emphasized the Head of the Republic Batu Khasikov. The excursion program for the distinguished guests included a visit to the national parks of Kalmykia, acquaintance with the unique ecosystems of the region: the Black Lands Reserve, singing barchans and the shore of the Pink Lake, as well as with the fauna of the region – saigas, horses and camels. The program plan allowed the participants to fully touch and feel the beauty of Kalmykia: the guests had the opportunity not just to see the region, but also to feel its atmosphere and get acquainted with the traditions and customs that make Kalmykia truly special.
