Number of birds in a colony of pink pelicans
In the south of Russia, in mysterious Kalmykia, experienced employees of the Black Lands Nature Reserve have completed monitoring the nesting colonies of the pink pelican, listed in the Red Book, on the islands of Lake Manych-Gudilo.
Using a drone, it was possible to count 3,380 adult birds and 1,807 chicks, which makes this colony the largest in Russia, a state source in the government of the Republic of Kalmykia reported to KalmykiaTour.
The stable number of rare birds in the colony of pink pelicans indicates a good food supply, the absence of conflicts with people and relatively safe nesting conditions, experienced Kalmyk specialists in the Ministry of Culture and Tourism of the Republic of Kalmykia clarified.
